Don't Forget What He's Done - Bless The Lord O My Soul

"Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits." — Psalm 103:1-2 NKJV

David is preaching to himself. That's what this psalm is — a man talking his own soul back into remembrance. Not to others, not a public declaration. He is speaking directly to the place inside him that forgets. Bless the Lord, O my soul, he says. And then he starts listing, carefully, deliberately, the things he does not want to lose track of.

Forget not. Two small words that carry enormous weight — because we do forget. The grace that held us last year fades when this year gets hard. The answered prayer from three months ago gets crowded out by the unanswered one from last week. Memory is a spiritual discipline.

David's list includes forgiveness, healing, redemption, love, compassion, renewed strength. These are not abstract concepts — for him, they were specific moments in a real life. What are yours? They are worth writing down. They are worth returning to when the new hard thing arrives and tries to make you believe that nothing has ever worked out.

Make a list of five specific things God has done in your life — not general, but particular. Write them somewhere you'll see them. Let them do their work the next time forgetting starts to win.

Scripture Promise:

"As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us."—Psalm 103:12 NKJV

Prayer:

Father, help me not forget any of your benefits, but to remember all of your goodness and faithfulness. Continue to guide me on this journey and help me recognize that you are working even when I cannot see the evidence. In Jesus's name I pray.

Amen.
