Morning Is a GiftGiving Thanks In The Morning

"It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night." — Psalm 92:1-2 NKJV

It is early. The night watch has ended and the morning has come — and that, all by itself, is the occasion for this psalm. Not a miracle, not a great victory. Just morning. The psalmist wakes and the first impulse is gratitude. Before the demands of the day assemble, before the noise begins, there is this: a declaration that it is good to give thanks. That the morning itself is evidence of something.

Gratitude is a discipline before it is a feeling. The psalmist doesn't say it feels good to give thanks — he says it is good. There's a difference. Some mornings don't feel grateful. Some mornings the weight is already there when you open your eyes. But the practice of declaring His lovingkindness anyway — before the day has proven itself — is an act of faith.

Morning and night. The rhythm of it matters. Start with love. End with faithfulness. Let your day be bookended by what is true about God rather than by what is uncertain about your circumstances.

Before you open your phone or start your morning routine today, say one thing you're grateful for out loud. Just one. Let that be the first word of your day.

Scripture Promise:

"His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV

Prayer:

Father, thank you for this day and all the blessing you have in store for those that love you — blessings we have not even realized yet. No matter what may come, help us to always trust in you. In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen.
