The Only Place That Holds

"My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved." —Psalm 62:5-6 NKJV

People are pressing in on David from every side — some with flattery, some with opposition, some whose loyalty he can't quite read. He has learned, through enough betrayals and enough broken alliances, that human support has a weight limit. It bends. It fails. It disappears when the stakes get high enough. And so he comes back, again and again, to the only foundation he has never found cracking beneath him.

There's an ache that comes from putting weight on something that wasn't built to hold it — a person, a relationship, a title, a plan — and feeling it give way beneath you. David isn't bitter about it. He just knows where to put the weight now.

My soul, wait silently for God alone. This is not passive resignation. It is the most active, intentional redirection of trust a person can make. Stop laying your full weight on what cannot hold you. The rock that never shifts, the salvation that never qualifies, the defense that never sleeps — that is where you were made to rest.

Where have you been expecting something or someone to hold what only God can hold? Name it honestly, then redirect: My expectation is from You alone

Scripture Promise:

"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever." —Psalm 125:1 NKJV

Prayer:

Father, in you I find what cannot be moved. You are my strength, my rock, and my salvation. Teach me to rest on you. In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen.
