The Well-Watered Life
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." — Psalm 1:1–3 NKJV
Early morning in ancient Israel. A young shepherd sits at the edge of a hillside — not yet a king, not yet famous for anything. The air smells of dust and olive wood. He presses two words onto parchment, slowly, like a man who has been turning something over for a long time. Blessed is the man... And everything that follows is the road he is choosing, with that sentence.
There are seasons when life just feels dry. Nothing you're doing seems to be landing. You wake up wondering if any of it matters. I know that feeling — and I think David did too.
Before the battles, before the laments, God opens the whole book of Psalms with the image of a tree. Not striving, not performing. Just planted. The fruit comes, the roots hold. And it's not because the tree is trying harder, the tree simply stays close to the water.
That's the whole invitation of Psalm 1. It'd not a list of rules, it's a posture. Like David, delight in the law of the Lord. Stay near the source. Underground, the growth happens gradually, where no one is watching. The fruit will come in its season, not yours. Remember, you don't have to figured it all out today, you just have to stay near the water.

Sit with Psalm 1 slowly today — not to study it, just to be with it. Ask God one honest question: "Where have I been drifting, and what does coming back to the water look like for me?"
Scripture Promise:
"He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." —Psalm 1:3 · NKJV
Prayer:
Father, help me be like the tree planted by the water source so that my roots can grow deeper as I study your word. Let me bear fruit so that other can be drawn to you.
Amen.
