How Long?
“How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him.” — 1 Kings 18:21, NKJV
Mount Carmel is crowded. Hundreds of Baal’s prophets stand on one side. Elijah stands alone on the other. Between them is a nation that has spent too long trying to keep one foot in both worlds.
Then Elijah asks the question no one wants to answer: “How long will you falter between two opinions?”
Scripture says the people answered him not a word.
Perhaps they are silent because the question has reached somewhere explanations cannot go.
We know something about that middle ground. We can believe God is Lord while keeping certain areas under our own control. We follow Christ until following Him interferes with what we want. We call Him Lord while quietly reserving the right to decide which commands apply to us.
Then Jesus walks into our divided loyalties and says two words: “Follow Me.”
He does not ask us to stand close enough to Christianity to be associated with Him. He calls us to belong to Him.
There comes a moment when another sermon, another sign, and another promise will not settle what has already become a question of surrender. We already know enough to choose.
Elijah’s question still stands.
If Jesus truly is Lord, what are you still negotiating with Him?
Name one area where you already know what God is asking but have continued hesitating. Stop waiting for another sign and take the next obedient step.
