The Years the Locust Ate

“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” — Joel 2:25, NKJV

Some losses cannot simply be replaced. Money may return, possessions can sometimes be restored and new opportunities may come, but what about years? What happens when you look behind you and see time consumed by wrong decisions, painful circumstances, rebellion or seasons you wish you could live again? Joel spoke to people staring at devastation. Locusts had stripped the land until places that once produced abundance stood empty.

Then God spoke of restoration. He was not pretending the devastation had never happened or promising to rewind the calendar. He was revealing that loss would not have the final word. The God who could bring fruitfulness back to ruined fields could still write something redemptive after a season of devastation.

Jesus gives us the greatest picture of that truth. At Calvary, everything appeared lost. Hope seemed buried behind a sealed stone, yet three days later God brought life from the place everyone thought was finished. Perhaps there are years in your story you would reclaim if you could. You cannot return to them, but you can place them into the hands of the One who redeems. God does not need you to rewrite yesterday before He can bring purpose out of tomorrow.

Bring one season you consider wasted or lost before God. Instead of asking how you can get it back, begin asking how He wants to redeem what remains.

Scripture Promise:

“You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God.”
— Joel 2:26, NKJV

Prayer:

Father, thank you for the years that are behind me. For the years that are ahead, be the center of them all. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
