Teach Me Your Ways
“He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” — Micah 4:2, NKJV
Imagine hearing someone say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD.” There is excitement in the invitation, a genuine desire to be in God's presence and learn from Him. Micah describes a time when people from many nations will seek the Lord, eager to be taught His ways. What a beautiful picture of hearts drawn toward God. They recognize that His wisdom is worth seeking and His paths are worth following. They want to know Him, understand His ways, and allow what they learn to shape how they live.
Then Jesus came, and the ways of God were no longer something people could only hear about. They could see them lived out before their eyes. They watched Him touch those others avoided, forgive those others condemned, and show compassion to people society had forgotten. They heard Him teach about loving enemies, serving others, and trusting the Father. Everything about His life revealed the character of the God Micah invited the nations to know. Yet even those who walked closest to Jesus sometimes struggled with His ways. His disciples argued about greatness, wanted judgment upon those who rejected Him, and resisted the thought of His suffering. They loved Jesus, but they still had much to learn about becoming like Him.
And perhaps that is where this prophecy reaches into our own lives. We can love Jesus, believe His Word, and still find ourselves resisting the very things He wants to teach us. We may ask Him to guide our decisions while holding tightly to our preferences, or seek His blessings without welcoming the changes His presence brings. Have we become more interested in knowing what God can do for us than in learning who He wants us to become? Micah's invitation is still before us. Come and learn His ways. But learning from Jesus requires a heart willing to be changed by what He teaches.
As you spend time with Jesus today, ask Him to reveal one area where your ways differ from His. Be willing to learn from Him and take a deliberate step toward living what He teaches.
