When God Wants Your Heart
“For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.”
— Hosea 6:6, NKJV
The sacrifices were still being offered. Religious activity continued. From the outside, it might have appeared that Israel was still connected to God. But God saw something the rituals could not hide. Their hearts were far from Him. Through Hosea, God made His desire clear. He wanted more than offerings. He wanted His people to know Him.
Centuries later, Jesus quoted Hosea’s words when confronting people who understood religious rules but had missed the heart of God. They knew what faithfulness looked like outwardly, yet struggled to recognize mercy standing right in front of them.
It is possible for us to do the same. We can read Scripture, attend worship, serve, give, sing and pray while slowly allowing our relationship with God to become routine. We can know about Him without continuing to know Him.
Jesus did not die so that Christianity could become another religious schedule. He opened the way for us to live in relationship with the Father.
So before measuring your spiritual life by what you have done for God lately, ask something deeper: Have I been enjoying God Himself? He wants more than your activity. He wants your heart.
Spend time with God today without bringing a list of things to accomplish or request. Simply talk with Him, listen through His Word, and remember Who you are spending time with.
Scripture Promise:
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” — John 17:3, NKJV
Prayer:
Father, help me to desire time in your presence above all things. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
