Your King Is Coming
“Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey.” — Zechariah 9:9, NKJV
The streets of Jerusalem were filled with excitement as Jesus approached the city riding on a donkey. Cloaks were spread along the road, palm branches waved, and voices rose in celebration. The people were welcoming their King, fulfilling the prophecy Zechariah had spoken centuries earlier. Yet many in that crowd had expectations Jesus had never promised to fulfill. They wanted a ruler who would overthrow Rome and restore their nation's power. They were celebrating the arrival of a King without fully understanding the kingdom He had come to establish.
Jesus knew what awaited Him beyond the cheering crowds. Within days, the voices of celebration would give way to demands for His crucifixion. He would wear a crown of thorns, carry a cross, and surrender His life for the salvation of humanity. The King who entered Jerusalem in humility had come to accomplish something far greater than political freedom. He had come to free humanity from the power of sin and reconcile us to the Father. His authority was revealed through a love willing to give everything for those He came to save.
It is possible to welcome Jesus enthusiastically while still holding expectations about how He should rule our lives. We rejoice in His promises of forgiveness, peace, and eternal life, but His authority sometimes challenges the choices we want to make for ourselves. Are we following Jesus as the King He truly is, or have we welcomed a version of Him who never asks us to surrender what we want to keep? The One who rode into Jerusalem deserves more than our praise. He deserves the throne of our hearts.
Consider whether there is an area of your life where you welcome Jesus' blessings but resist His authority. Surrender that area to Him today, trusting the love of the King who gave Himself for you.

Father, help me to allow you to have rule over my whole life, even those things which I think I can control on my own. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
