Return to Me

“Return to Me, says the LORD of hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts.”
— Zechariah 1:3, NKJV

The people had returned to Jerusalem after years of captivity. They were back in the land of their fathers, surrounded by the places that reminded them of their history with God. Yet through Zechariah, the Lord spoke an invitation that revealed something was still missing: “Return to Me.” They had returned to their homeland, but God wanted their hearts. Their physical location had changed, while the deeper work of restoring their relationship with Him still needed attention.

We can make significant changes in our lives and still remain distant from God. We may leave behind certain habits, become more involved in church, or resume spiritual activities we once neglected. Those steps can be important, but the Lord's invitation reaches beyond what others can observe. Jesus confronted this very issue when He spoke to people who honored God with their lips while their hearts remained far from Him. He desired genuine love and fellowship, the kind of relationship that transforms obedience from an outward obligation into a willing response to His goodness.

There is something deeply personal about God's invitation. He could have simply commanded His people to correct their behavior, but He called them back to Himself. Have you been working so hard to become the Christian you think you should be that you've overlooked the Savior who is inviting you to know Him more intimately? Jesus gave His life to restore the relationship sin had broken. The invitation to return is still open, and the One who calls is the very One who made our return possible.

Examine whether your spiritual activities have been drawing you closer to Jesus or simply keeping you busy. Spend intentional time with Him today, asking for a renewed love that reaches beyond religious routine.

Scripture Promise:

Prayer:

Father, give me a heart that wants to spend time with you each day. A heart that wants to know you. A heart that loves you back. In Jesus name I pray, Ame.
