I Am With You

“I am with you, says the LORD.” — Haggai 1:13, NKJV

The people listened to Haggai's message and responded to God's call. They were ready to return to the work of rebuilding the temple. Yet before the task was completed, before the obstacles disappeared, and before they could see the results of their obedience, God sent them a message through His prophet: “I am with you.” Four simple words carried an assurance greater than anything they could have accomplished on their own. The Lord had not abandoned them during their years of neglect, and now He was reminding them that they would not face the work ahead without Him.

Think about the tenderness of that moment. God could have continued reminding His people of everything they had failed to do, but He gave them the assurance of His presence as they responded to Him. Jesus revealed that same heart toward His disciples. They were ordinary men with weaknesses, fears, and a history of misunderstanding His mission. Yet after His resurrection, He entrusted them with carrying the gospel to the world and promised to remain with them always. He knew their limitations, but His calling was accompanied by His presence.

Sometimes the fear of failing keeps us from responding when God calls. We focus on what we lack, the mistakes we've made, or the difficulty of what lies ahead. Yet the Lord's assurance to His people invites us to shift our attention from our inadequacy to His faithfulness. If Jesus has promised to walk with you, why should the fear of what you cannot do keep you from following where He leads? The One who calls us knows our weaknesses, and His presence is the greatest assurance we could ever receive.

Identify one step of obedience you've delayed because you feel unprepared or afraid. Ask Jesus for courage to move forward, trusting that His presence will accompany you.

Scripture Promise:

“And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20, NKJV

Prayer:

Father, thank you for being with me even when I feel as though I may fail. Thank you for the assurance that I can do all things through your strength. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
