Yet I Will Rejoice

“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” — Habakkuk 3:18, NKJV

The fig tree would not blossom. The vines would produce no fruit. The fields would yield no food, and the flocks and herds would disappear. Habakkuk described the collapse of nearly everything his people depended upon for survival. Yet after naming those losses, he declared that he would rejoice in the Lord. These were not the words of a man who had suddenly received every answer he wanted. They came from someone who had wrestled with God, listened to His response, and discovered that the Lord Himself was still worthy of his confidence.

It is one thing to praise God when life is going well. It is another to love and trust Him when the blessings we have enjoyed begin to disappear. Jesus understood that kind of surrender. In Gethsemane, He faced suffering beyond anything we can comprehend, yet He entrusted Himself to His Father. He continued toward the cross because His love for humanity was greater than the suffering He would endure. Through His resurrection, He gave us a hope that reaches beyond the losses and disappointments of this present life.

Habakkuk's declaration challenges us to consider what holds our hearts steady. If the things we depend upon were suddenly taken away, what would remain of our relationship with God? Have we learned to love Jesus for who He is, or has our joy become so attached to His blessings that we struggle to recognize Him when those blessings are absent? The prophet discovered a source of joy that could survive barren fields and empty stalls. That same Savior invites us to find our deepest security in Him.

Thank Jesus today for who He is before thanking Him for what He has given you. Let your praise reflect your love for the Savior Himself, even in an area of life where you are experiencing disappointment.

Scripture Promise:

“The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills.” — Habakkuk 3:19, NKJV
