I Will Stand My Watch

“I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me.”
— Habakkuk 2:1, NKJV

Habakkuk had poured out his questions before God, and the answer he received only deepened his confusion. Yet notice what he did next. He climbed to his watchpost and waited. The prophet had more questions than answers, but he had not lost his desire to hear from God. There is something beautiful about that kind of faith. Habakkuk was troubled by what he could not understand, but he still believed the Lord was worth listening to.

Most of us know what it feels like to wait for an answer that seems slow in coming. We pray, search for reassurance, and sometimes fill the silence with our own conclusions. We may even become frustrated enough to stop listening. But consider how Jesus lived. Before the demands of the day began, He often withdrew to spend time with His Father. The One who came to reveal God to humanity treasured communion with Him. In Gethsemane, when His soul was overwhelmed with sorrow, Jesus remained in prayer and surrendered to the Father's will. He showed us what it means to remain close to God when the road ahead is difficult.

Habakkuk's watchtower invites us to examine the way we approach the Lord. Do we seek His presence because we love Him, or only because we need an answer? The prophet was willing to wait and listen even after hearing something he did not understand. Have we become so eager for God to explain our circumstances that we've forgotten the privilege of simply being with Him? Sometimes the greatest gift of waiting is the deeper relationship that develops when we remain in His presence.

Set aside a few uninterrupted minutes with Jesus today. Bring Him your questions, but spend time in His Word and prayer without rushing to find an immediate answer. Allow your heart to rest in His presence.

Scripture Promise:

“Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!” — Psalm 27:14, NKJV

Prayer:

Father, teach me to desire your presence more than I desire an answer. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
