What Do You See?
“Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘Jeremiah, what do you see?’ And I said, ‘I see a branch of an almond tree.’ Then the LORD said to me, ‘You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.’” — Jeremiah 1:11–12, NKJV
Jeremiah looks at the branch before him. It seems ordinary enough, but God asks, “What do you see?” Jeremiah sees an almond branch. God sees an opportunity to remind him that He is watching over His Word and will accomplish what He has spoken.
Sometimes what is in front of us can become so consuming that it begins to shape what we believe about God. We see the closed door and wonder if He has forgotten us. We see the unanswered prayer and question whether He is listening. We see something that has remained unchanged for so long that hope begins to feel harder than disappointment.
The disciples knew that feeling. They watched Jesus die and saw His body placed inside a tomb. From where they stood, everything they had hoped for appeared to be over. Yet the sealed tomb could not cancel what Jesus had already said. While they were grieving what they could see, God was preparing to reveal what they could not.
Sunday morning reminds us that Jesus is Lord even over circumstances that look final.
Maybe that is why God’s question to Jeremiah matters so much. What do you see? God is not asking us to deny what is in front of us. He is asking us not to let what we see become greater than what we know about Him.
There may be places in your life where you cannot see God moving right now. But Christ has already given you a reason to trust Him. The empty tomb reminds us that God can be at work even when everything before our eyes appears to say otherwise.
Could it be that you have been staring so long at what hasn’t changed that you have forgotten to look toward the One who never changes?
Bring one situation before Jesus that has been weakening your hope. Tell Him honestly what you see, then remind your heart of what you know to be true about Him. Let His faithfulness have the final word today.

Prayer:
Father, when all we see is what's in front of us, remind us that is not all there is. Remind us of your faithfulness. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
