Someone Is in the Fire
“Look! I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt.” — Daniel 3:25, NKJV
The furnace is heated seven times hotter. Flames leap from the opening with such force that the soldiers carrying Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego are killed before they can step away.
The three Hebrews disappear into the fire. Nebuchadnezzar expects the story to be over. Instead, he rises from his seat in astonishment. He counted three men going in. Now he sees four. The men who were thrown in bound are walking freely in the flames. God could have kept them from entering the furnace. Instead, His presence becomes unmistakable inside it.
That can be difficult for us because we often measure God’s faithfulness by what He prevents. If the diagnosis comes, the relationship ends, the job disappears, or grief enters our home, we may wonder why God allowed the fire at all.
Jesus never promised a life untouched by suffering. He promised something deeper: His presence. He is Immanuel, God with us. He entered our suffering, carried our sorrow, faced death, and walked out of the grave victorious.
Sometimes we pray so intensely for the fire to disappear that we miss the ways Christ is sustaining us within it. Look again at the furnace. The fire that should have destroyed the Hebrews burned away the ropes that bound them.
God can do things in the fire that comfort would never accomplish.
Have you been looking so hard for a way out that you have missed Jesus walking with you through it?
Bring your present fire before Christ. Continue asking for deliverance, but also ask Him to make His presence unmistakable and to show you what He may be freeing within you through this season.
Scripture Promise:
“When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” — Isaiah 43:2, NKJV
Prayer:
Father, help us to remember that you are the same God who delivered the three hebrews from the fiery furnace, and you are still able to deliver us now from the things that appear to over take us. Teach us to trust you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
