What Owns Your Heart?
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house.” — Malachi 3:10, NKJV
There is something revealing about a closed hand. Whatever is inside may be small, but the tighter we grip it, the more obvious it becomes that we are afraid to let it go.
Malachi confronts Israel about withholding tithe and offerings from God. On the surface, the issue is stewardship. Underneath it is trust.
Do they believe the God who provided for them can still be trusted when obedience requires them to release something valuable?
Jesus goes directly to that deeper issue when He says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” He understands that money and possessions can quietly become more than resources. They can become security, identity, independence, and the place we turn when we want to feel safe.
Yet the One asking for our trust is Jesus—the One who tells us that our heavenly Father knows what we need, the One who fed thousands from a few loaves, and the One who gave everything to redeem us.
Stewardship is ultimately a question of ownership. Everything in our hands already belongs to God, but He wants something far more valuable than what we possess. He wants the heart holding it.
Sometimes we discover what owns our heart only when God asks us to open our hand.
What becomes hardest to release when Jesus asks you to trust Him?
Examine how you handle your money, possessions, time, and abilities. Ask Christ whether your stewardship reflects trust in Him or fear of not having enough.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33, NKJV
Prayer:
Father, help me to make my greatest treasure the joy of having you in my life. The chance to know you more and to live out your purpose for me. Thank you for giving that to me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
