Before You Were Born
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you.”
— Jeremiah 1:5, NKJV
The words settle heavily over Jeremiah.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”
He is young. Inexperienced. The assignment sounds far bigger than anything he feels prepared to carry, so Jeremiah gives God the obvious reason He must have chosen the wrong person: “I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”
God doesn’t withdraw the call.
Instead, He tells Jeremiah not to be afraid, reaches out, touches his mouth, and says, “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.”
Jeremiah sees his inadequacy. God sees someone He already knows.
We often behave as though God discovers our weaknesses after He calls us. He doesn’t. He knew the insecurities, unfinished places, and limitations before the assignment ever came.
Jesus knew Peter would be impulsive. He knew Thomas would wrestle with doubt. He knew every disciple would need considerable growing. Still He called them to follow Him.
Maybe the weakness you keep presenting to God as evidence that He cannot use you is something He already knew when He called your name.
Identify one insecurity that has caused you to shrink from something God may be asking of you. Stop rehearsing your inability and begin trusting His sufficiency.
Scripture Promise:
“Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the LORD. — Jeremiah 1:8, NKJV
Prayer:
Father, your word says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Help me to walk in that assurance. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
