He Asked a Blind Man What He Wanted.
Jesus stops — and asks the question He already knows the answer to — Mark 10:51
"So Jesus answered and said to him, 'What do you want Me to do for you?'" — Mark 10:51 (NKJV)
The road from Jericho to Jerusalem was busy and Jesus was on it for the last time. He knew what was ahead. He had told the disciples three times now. The cross was at the end of this road. The crowd around Him was thick with the energy of Passover approaching. And on the edge of the road, sitting in the dust where he always sat, was Bartimaeus.
He was blind. He had been a beggar long enough that people had learned to step around him . On this day, he heard the crowd's energy change. He heard the name passed from mouth to mouth. Jesus of Nazareth is passing. And Bartimaeus shouted. Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. The people around him told him to be quiet. He shouted louder. Completely ignoring the crowd. He wanted to experience what other had experienced at the hand of Jesus.
Jesus stopped. In the middle of the procession, with Jerusalem ahead and everything coming, He stopped, stood still and said: call him. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was asking for him, he threw off his cloak, his begging robe. It was his only protection. In some ways it was his livelihood. He jumped up and came toward Jesus. What excites me is that he dropped the thing that defined his limitation the moment he heard his name called.
And Jesus asked: what do you want Me to do for you? The question is almost startling in its plainness. The man is blind. He is begging. But Jesus asked. Because He always asks. Because He wants the specific thing, named by the specific person, in the specific moment. Bartimaeus said Rabbi, that I may receive my sight. Your faith has made you well Jesus told him and immediately he received his sight. And he followed Jesus on the road.
Jesus is asking you the same question today. He is asking specifically 'what do you want Me to do for you? Don't let your answer be vague or general. Name the thing. And if you ask according to His will, you can rest assured that He will do what He said. Nothing is to hard for God. Look at what He did for Bartimaeus.

Prayer:
Father, I want to live a life that is pleasing to you. I want you to help me do that. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
