You Have to Be Born Again.
The night Nicodemus came looking for something he couldn't name
"Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'" — John 3:3 (NKJV)
Have you ever done everything right — attended, served, studied, prayed — and still felt like something essential was just out of reach? Like you were standing in the right building but on the wrong side of a door you couldn't find?
That is the feeling that brought Nicodemus to Jesus in the middle of the night.
He was a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews, a man who had built his entire life on religious faithfulness. He knew the Scriptures. He kept the law. By every external measure, he was exactly what a devoted follower of God was supposed to look like. And something in him was still hungry. Hungry enough to slip away in the dark and find Jesus, and ask the question he couldn't ask in the daylight.
Jesus didn't ease him in. He went straight to the root: unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus pushed back the way a carnal mind does — how can a man enter a second time into his mother's womb? He was doing what all of us do when we encounter something that won't fit our existing categories. He tried to make it make sense. And Jesus said: what is born of flesh is flesh. What is born of the Spirit is spirit. The wind blows where it wishes — you cannot see it, but you feel it.
He was saying something that must have quietly undone everything Nicodemus had built his confidence on: all of it — the knowledge, the discipline, the decades of faithful effort — none of it could produce what he was actually looking for. You cannot study your way into new life or behave your way there. Birth is not something you achieve. It is something that happens to you when you stop striving long enough to receive it.
The kingdom doesn't need a more disciplined version of who you already are. It needs something only the Spirit of God can produce. Not try harder. Be made new.
Sit with this honestly today: am I working harder at religion, or have I surrendered to being remade? Where have you been striving when what God is actually asking for is surrender? Name that place. Open your hands. You cannot be born by effort. You can only receive what the Spirit is already ready to give.

Father, thank you for allowing me to be born into this world. Help me to be born again. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
