"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." — John 15:5 (NKJV)
I was raised to handle things. Figure it out, push through, don't ask for more than you need. And somewhere along the way, I brought that same posture into my relationship with God, quietly convinced that needing help was something to be a little ashamed of.
But Jesus didn't leave much room for that idea. A branch doesn't produce fruit by trying harder, it produces fruit by staying connected. The moment it's separated from the vine, it doesn't just struggle, it can't do anything at all. That's not a harsh image, it's just an honest one.
Dependence on God was never meant to feel like weakness and it shouldn't. Asking for help isn't giving up, it's simply plugging back in.
Identify one area where you've been running on your own strength. Pause and ask God for help — out loud if you can. Let the asking itself be the surrender.
Scripture promise:
"Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God." —2 Corinthians 3:5
Prayer:
Father, help me to realize all of my help comes from you. And without you, all that I do on my own will never be enough.
Amen.
