THE GIFT OF REST
"By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work." — Genesis 2:2–3
God rested. Let that settle in for a moment. The One who never grows tired, never wears out, never runs low on power — He stopped. He rested. Not because He was exhausted, but because He wanted to model something for us. He built rest into the very architecture of creation. He wove it into the rhythm of the week before we ever had a chance to get busy.
We live in a culture that glorifies hustle. The badge of honor is how little sleep you got and how many things you have going on. But God is not impressed with our frantic pace. He is not clapping for your burnout. From the very beginning, He set apart a day and called it holy — set apart, consecrated, different.
My friend, rest is not laziness. Rest is an act of faith. It is saying, "God, I trust that the world will not fall apart if I stop for a day." It is acknowledging that you are not the one holding things together. He is. And He rested so that you would know: it is safe to stop.
Block out time this week for true, intentional rest — not just sleep, but the kind of stillness where you let God speak. No to-do list. No phone. Just you and the God who rested.
Scripture Promise:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28
Prayer:
Father, thank you for setting aside a day for me to not only rest physically, but a day to spend with you reflecting on the ways you love us. Lord help me to be a blessing to others. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Stay in Rhythm. Stay in Grace.
