THE GOD WHO SEES ME
"She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: 'You are the God who sees me.'" — Genesis 16:13
Hagar was a slave. She had no power, no status, no voice. She had been used and then discarded, running from a household where she no longer felt safe. She was alone in the desert, tired and afraid, with no one to turn to.
And God saw her. Not the institution she came from. Not the role she filled. Not the mistakes that had been made around her and by her. Her. God saw her — and He spoke to her by name. He gave her a promise. He gave her a future. He gave her a name for Himself that she would carry for the rest of her life: El Roi. The God who sees.
My friend, you may feel invisible today. You may feel like the one who slips through the cracks, the one no one notices, the one whose pain goes unacknowledged in rooms full of louder needs. But God sees you. He saw Hagar in the wilderness with no advocate but Himself. He sees you in your wilderness with the same eyes, the same compassion, the same voice. You are not invisible to Him. You are known.
Write the words "El Roi — The God Who Sees Me" on a piece of paper and put it somewhere visible today. Every time you see it, let it be a reminder: I am seen. I am known. I am not invisible to God.
Scripture Promise:
"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar." — Psalm 139:1–2
Prayer:
Father, thank you for seeing me even when other may not. Teach me to cry out to you in my time of trouble and know that you will deliver me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
