YOU HAVE WRESTLED WITH GOD AND PREVAILED

"Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome." — Genesis 32:28

The wrestling match was over, and God did something unexpected. He gave Jacob a new name. Not a rebuke for the fight. Not a reprimand for daring to wrestle with God. A new name. A new identity. You have struggled, and you have prevailed.

There is a theology here that we don't talk about enough — the idea that God is not fragile, that He can handle our wrestling. He can handle your questions and your anger and your grief and your doubts. He can handle you showing up in the dark and grabbing hold and refusing to let go until something changes. He is not offended by your desperation. He is moved by it.

And when you come through it — when the night is finally over — He doesn't just leave you where you were. He renames you. Because the person who wrestles with God and walks out the other side is not the same person who walked in. The limp is real. The change is real. And the new name is real. You have prevailed, my friend. Keep walking.

What has God been renaming in you? What old identity are you still wearing that no longer fits who you are becoming? Write down your old name — fear, failure, unworthy — and next to it, write the new name God is giving you.

Scripture Promise:

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Prayer:

Father, thank you for giving me the strength to wrestle through my trials and come out victoriously. Help me to hold on until my change comes. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
