A LADDER REACHING HEAVEN
"He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it." — Genesis 28:12
Jacob was running for his life, sleeping on rocks with a stone for a pillow, alone in the dark somewhere between the home he'd destroyed and the future he couldn't see. It was not a spiritual high point. It was a mess of his own making. And yet — God showed up.
Not when Jacob had cleaned up. Not when Jacob had repented and made restitution and gotten his act together. God showed up in the middle of the mess, at the lowest point of the journey, in a dream that split open the sky and showed him that heaven and earth were still connected. That the God of his father and grandfather was also his God. That even running away, even in the dark, even sleeping on a rock — he was not outside of God's reach.
My friend, maybe you're on a stone pillow night right now. Maybe you're between what you left and what you haven't arrived at yet. God is not waiting for you to get somewhere better before He meets you. He is meeting you here. The stairway is still open. Heaven is still close. And the God who showed up for Jacob in the wilderness is showing up for you in yours.
Journal about where you feel like you are right now — are you running, resting, in between? Write out a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you in that exact place, just as He did for Jacob.
Scripture Promise:
"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there." — Psalm 139:7–8
Prayer:
Father, even in the mess of my own making, deliver me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
