THE WELL IN THE WILDERNESS
"Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink." — Genesis 21:19
Hagar had been sent away into the wilderness with her son and a container of water that was now empty. She had no plan. No protection. No way forward. She placed her child under a bush because she could not bear to watch him die, and she sat down at a distance and wept.
That is the lowest moment. When you've done everything you know to do, and it still isn't enough, and you're just sitting at a distance from your own pain because you can't be any closer to it.
But then God heard the child crying. And He called out to Hagar — not to fix everything at once, but to open her eyes. The well was there. It had been there the whole time. She just couldn't see it through the grief.
My friend, God hears crying. He heard the cry of a slave woman in the wilderness, and He hears yours. You have not been abandoned. The provision is there — sometimes it takes God opening our eyes to see what He has already placed right in front of us. Ask Him to open yours today.
What resource, relationship, or opportunity might God have already placed near you that you haven't been able to see through your circumstances? Ask Him today to open your eyes to what is already there.
Scripture Promise:
"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." — Jeremiah 33:3
Prayer:
Father, thank you for the provisions you have made, and for opening my eyes to see them. An for those that I have yet to see, open my eyes. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
