AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER?

"Then the Lord said to Cain, 'Where is your brother Abel?'" — Genesis 4:9

Cain's answer to God was one of the most chilling responses in all of Scripture. Am I my brother's keeper? It is the voice of jealousy that has curdled into indifference, of a heart so hardened by bitterness that it could look at the blood of its own brother and shrug.

But God asked the question anyway. And He is still asking it today. Where is your brother? Where is your sister? Where is the person in your community who is struggling while you've been comfortable? Where is the one whose voice you stopped hearing because life got busy?

My friend, the answer to Cain's question is yes. We are our brothers' keepers. We are responsible to one another. That is not the burden of guilt — it is the call of love. God placed people in your circle on purpose. The ones who are easy to love, and especially the ones who are not. When jealousy rises up — and it will — don't let it grow. Water it down with gratitude. Choose to celebrate what God is doing in others. The same God who blesses them is more than able to bless you too.

Is there someone in your life you've allowed jealousy or bitterness to put distance between you and them? Today, take one intentional step toward reconciliation — even if it's just a prayer for them.

Scripture Promise:

"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." — Romans 12:10

Prayer:
Father, thank you for giving us love. Help me to be concerned for others around me and love them as you have loved me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
