What I Have I Give You
“Then Peter said, 'Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.'” (Acts 3:6, NKJV)
You've been carried to this gate every day for as long as anyone can remember. Beautiful, they call it, though beauty has never once been on your side of the transaction. You sit here and ask for whatever coins the worshippers passing through will spare, and most days that's the whole of your hope for the day.
Two men are coming up the steps now, and you do what you always do. Hold out your hand. Ask.
But this time, one of them stops. Really looks at you, the way people usually don't. Look at us, he says. And you do, expecting silver.
What comes next isn't money. Peter takes your hand and pulls, and something happens in your feet and ankles that has never happened before. Strength, where there has only ever been weakness. You're standing before you understand that you're standing. Then you're walking. Then, because walking isn't big enough for what just happened in your body, you're leaping, into the temple, praising God loud enough that the whole crowd turns to see the man who used to beg at the gate.
You asked for something small because it was all you thought you were allowed to ask for. What you got was healing you didn't know to hope for.
What have you stopped asking God for because it feels too big? Ask anyway. He isn't limited to what you thought was on the table.

“And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong.” (Acts 3:16, NKJV)
Prayer:
Father, help us to trust that nothing is impossible for you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
