Faith in the Fire
“That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:7, NKJV)
Peter knew what it was to have his faith tested.
Years earlier, he had stood beside Jesus and confidently declared that even if everyone else stumbled, he never would. Hours later, fear took over, and three times Peter denied knowing the Savior he loved.
Yet failure was not the end of Peter's story.
The resurrected Jesus came looking for him. Beside the Sea of Galilee, Christ restored the disciple who had denied Him and entrusted him again with the work of caring for His people.
Years later, that same Peter writes to Christians whose faith is being tested by suffering. He tells them their tested faith is more precious than gold.
Peter could say that because he had learned something about fire: Jesus does not abandon us in it.
Trials have a way of exposing what easy seasons can hide. They reveal where our confidence rests, what we truly believe about God, and whether we will still trust Him when we cannot understand what He is allowing.
Maybe your faith feels as though it is being tested right now. Peter's life reminds us that testing does not mean Christ has rejected you. Even failure does not have to be final when it drives you back into the arms of Jesus.
The fire does not get the final word.
Christ does.
Instead of asking only for your trial to end, ask Jesus what He wants you to discover about Him while you are walking through it.
Scripture Promise:
“But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.” (1 Peter 5:10, NKJV)
Prayer:
Father, life is filled with trials. Jesus told us it would be so. Still there are days when all we have is just enough strength to hold on for another day. That strength comes from you. Thank you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
