I Have Kept the Faith
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7, NKJV)
Paul knows his journey is almost over.
The road behind him holds more than most of us could imagine: beatings, prisons, shipwrecks, rejection, sleepless nights, opposition, churches planted, friendships formed, and countless miles traveled carrying the name of Jesus.
Yet standing near the end of his life, Paul does not measure his success by how many churches he established or how many people heard him preach.
He says, “I have kept the faith.”
There is something deeply moving about those words when we remember where Paul began. The man who once tried to destroy the followers of Jesus is preparing to die as one of them. The Christ who stopped him on the Damascus road became the Christ he refused to let go of all the way to the finish.
That is faithfulness.
Following Jesus is not one dramatic decision. It is thousands of smaller decisions to keep choosing Him. There will be days when faith feels strong and days when you barely have enough strength for the next step. There will be victories and disappointments, answered prayers and questions that remain unanswered.
Through it all, Jesus remains worthy.
One day our races will end too. When that day comes, perhaps one of the greatest things that could ever be said of our lives will not be that we accomplished everything we planned.
It will be that we kept walking with Jesus.
Ask yourself where weariness has tempted you to stop running. Bring that place to Christ and ask Him for enough strength to take today's next faithful step.
Scripture Promise:
“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24, NKJV)
Prayer:
Father, give us the kind of faith that will hold, when everything around us seems lost and there is no where for us to go. Like Paul, lord let us remember to look up and know that you are a very present help in all of our troubles. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
