Tabitha, Arise
"But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, 'Tabitha, arise.' And she opened her eyes." — Acts 9:40 (NKJV)
Death had already spoken its final word over Tabitha.
The room was filled with widows whose tears told the story of a woman who had quietly spent her life serving others. They didn't speak first about her accomplishments or her reputation. They held up the garments she had made, the evidence of a faith that had clothed the poor, comforted the forgotten, and reflected the love of Christ in ordinary ways.
Peter saw their grief, but before he ever spoke to Tabitha, he knelt before God. That order is impossible to ignore.
The miracle didn't begin when Peter said, "Tabitha, arise." It began when he bowed on his knees before God. Peter understood something every follower of Christ must learn: the power was never in his words, his faith, or his reputation. The power belonged entirely to Jesus, the One who had conquered death and now worked through surrendered hands.
That same truth reaches far beyond an upper room in Joppa. We all encounter places where hope seems buried, relationships that have grown cold. There are dreams that have died, faith that has become weary, and hearts weighed down by grief or regret. Our first instinct is often to fix, explain, or control what only God can restore.
Yet Christ invites us to kneel before we act.
The same Jesus who raised Jairus's daughter... who called Lazarus from the tomb... who rose from the grave Himself... is still the Resurrection and the Life. Every miracle in Acts points beyond the apostles to Him. Peter was never the source of life. He was simply a witness to the Savior who is.
Perhaps the greatest miracle God wants to perform today is not around you, but within you. He specializes in breathing life into weary hearts, restoring broken hope, and awakening faith that has grown silent. Nothing is beyond His power because nothing is beyond His reach.
When Jesus speaks, death never has the final word.
Bring to Jesus the area of your life that feels beyond repair. Instead of focusing on what seems impossible, kneel before the One who is the Resurrection and the Life, trusting Him to accomplish what only He can do.
