With So Many Religions and Conflicting Teachings, How Can I Know What Is True?

WHEN EVERYONE CLAIMS TO SPEAK FOR GOD

Turn on the television, scroll through social media, or listen to different religious conversations, and you'll quickly discover how many people claim to know what God wants. One person insists that God approves of something another person strongly condemns. Churches disagree over biblical teachings, religious leaders sometimes contradict their own messages, and people who claim to represent Jesus don't always behave like Him. It's understandable that someone searching for God might wonder where to begin.

Perhaps you've even been hurt by people who claimed to speak for Him. Their words may have sounded biblical, but their treatment of others left you questioning whether their religion had anything to do with love. Experiences like these can make it difficult to separate God's character from the behavior of those who claim to represent Him.

Jesus knew that people would face confusion about spiritual truth. He warned against false teachers and encouraged His followers to examine the fruit of people's lives. But He also gave us something far more dependable than human opinions. He pointed us to Himself.

In John 14:6, Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." That's an extraordinary claim, and one worth examining carefully. Jesus didn't ask people to place their confidence in the reputation of religious leaders. He invited them to know Him, listen to His words, and

follow His example. His life revealed a God who is holy and merciful, who speaks truth and extends grace, who confronts sin while reaching out in love to save the sinner.

Truth matters because what we believe about God shapes how we relate to Him and how we treat one another. Jesus never encouraged blind acceptance of everything taught in God's name. He repeatedly directed people back to Scripture, corrected religious traditions that distorted God's intentions, and called His followers to live according to the truth.

As you search, make the Bible your foundation and Jesus the center of your study. Ask whether a teaching agrees with Scripture, whether it reflects the character Christ revealed, and whether it draws people toward obedience, love, and a deeper relationship with God. You don't have to accept every religious claim simply because someone attaches God's name to it.

WHAT SCRIPTURE REVEALS

John 14:6 (NKJV)

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"

John 17:17 (NKJV)

"Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth."

A MOMENT TO REFLECT

Has something you've witnessed in Christianity made it difficult for you to trust God? Have you considered that the behavior of someone claiming to represent Jesus may not accurately reflect the character of Jesus Himself?

AN INVITATION TO KNOW JESUS

Read one of the Gospels with fresh eyes. Set aside, for a moment, what others have told you about Jesus and examine what Scripture reveals about Him. Pay attention to His words, His compassion, His courage, and His response to sin. Allow the Bible to introduce you to the Savior whose character is the foundation of the truth you're seeking.
