Does God Still Love Me Despite My Past, My Mistakes, and My Doubts?
WHEN YOU WONDER IF YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR
There are things in life we wish we could undo. Words we wish we hadn't spoken, decisions that hurt people we loved, opportunities we wasted, and moments when we knew what was right but chose another direction. Sometimes the memories follow us for years. We may find a way to move forward outwardly while carrying the quiet fear that God sees us through the lens of our worst mistakes.
Perhaps you've walked away from Him. Maybe you've promised to change more times than you can remember, only to find yourself struggling with the same things again. You may wonder whether God has grown tired of your failures or whether His patience has finally reached its limit.
Jesus told a story about a young man who demanded his inheritance, left his father's home, and wasted everything. Eventually, hungry and ashamed, he decided to return. He rehearsed what he would say, hoping his father might at least allow him to live as a servant. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him, ran toward him, embraced him, and welcomed him home.
Imagine that moment. The son arrived carrying the weight of everything he had done. The father met him with compassion. Jesus told that story to help us understand the heart of God toward those who have wandered away.
God's love is greater than the mistakes you've made, but His love also desires something better for your life. Jesus showed mercy to people caught in sin and called them to leave their destructive ways behind. His forgiveness offers a new beginning, and His grace gives us strength to grow into the life He created us to live.
Romans 5:8 tells us that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Think about what that means. Jesus knew the condition of humanity before He went to the cross. He knew our rebellion, our selfishness, our failures, and our desperate need for salvation. Yet He chose to give His life for us.
You may have spent years believing that you needed to become a better person before approaching God. Jesus invites you to come to Him now, with a willing heart, and allow His love to begin changing you.
WHAT SCRIPTURE REVEALS
Romans 5:8 (NKJV)
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
John 6:37 (NKJV)
"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out."
A MOMENT TO REFLECT
Is there something in your past that has convinced you that God could no longer want a relationship with you? What would it mean to believe that Jesus knew your story and still chose to give His life for you?
AN INVITATION TO KNOW JESUS
Read Luke 15:11–24, the story of the prodigal son. As you read, pay particular attention to the father's response when his son returns. Then consider what Jesus may be revealing about God's willingness to receive you. You can begin speaking to Him today, right where you are.
