Can God Still Use Me If I'm Not Living the Way He Wants Me To?

A Personal Connection

Have you ever wondered whether the mistakes you've made or the choices you're still making have disqualified you from being used by God? Perhaps you believe in Him, attend church, or even serve in ministry, but deep down you know there are areas of your life that don't reflect His will. Does God still have a purpose for you? Can He use someone who isn't fully obeying Him?

What Scripture Reveals

Consider Saul of Tarsus. He was convinced he was serving God faithfully, yet he was persecuting the very people who followed Jesus. He approved of Stephen's death and went from house to house dragging believers into prison. Saul was sincere in his religious convictions, but he was sincerely wrong about the God he claimed to serve.

Then something extraordinary happened on the road to Damascus. Jesus interrupted Saul's journey with a question that exposed the truth: "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" (Acts 9:4, NKJV).

Jesus knew exactly who Saul was and everything he had done. Yet He also knew who Saul could become. In Acts 9:15, Jesus called him a chosen vessel, someone He would use to carry His name to the Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.

Think about that. The man who had been fighting against Jesus was being invited to spend the rest of his life serving Him. What an extraordinary picture of God's grace!

But notice something important. Jesus didn't leave Saul on the road he was traveling. He confronted him with the truth, and Saul responded by surrendering his life to Christ. The persecutor became a preacher of the gospel, and the man who once caused suffering for the name of Jesus would eventually suffer for that same name.

God's willingness to use us should never be mistaken for His approval of our disobedience. Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments" (John 14:15, NKJV). Obedience matters because our relationship with Him matters. His grace reaches us where we are, forgives our sins, and works within us to change the desires and direction of our lives.

So, can God still use you? Absolutely. He can reach you even while you're resisting Him, and He can accomplish His purposes in ways you never imagined. But His greatest desire is for you to know Him, love Him, and willingly walk in His ways.

A Moment to Reflect

Is there an area of your life where you've been resisting what you know God is asking of you? Could it be that Jesus is inviting you to experience something greater than being used by Him—a heart transformed through knowing and loving Him?

An Invitation to Know Jesus

The same Jesus who met Saul on the Damascus road is still reaching for hearts today. Your past doesn't have to determine your future, and your present struggles don't have to be the end of your story. Come to Him with an honest heart. Allow His love to show you where change is needed, and trust His grace to help you take the next step. God has a purpose for your life, and the most beautiful part of that purpose begins with belonging to Him.
